Family Heritage

The Brand VAS VITREUM brings together all the elements of excellence of the Swedish luxury crystal industry. Beauty, aesthetic and proportion are no quincidence. Vas Vitreum knows how to combine shape and know-how to create beautiful, high quality art.

The first four generations of the family worked with great succsess for the world famous glass factories Orrefors, Kosta Boda and Sandvik. The great grandfather Gustav Augustsson, was one of only five masters that made the award winning objects for the Paris Exhibition in 1925 and for that was rewarded with a gold medal.

In 1985, the master engraver Lars Börnesson, the 4th generation of glass craftsmen decided to found his own company. The name Vas Vitreum is Latin and means: ”object made of glass”.
The company has since then had many major assignments, including the large ten-year mission engraving in the Linköping Cathedral. The engraving consists of 180 windows with the Virgin Mary in a floral dress. About ninety species from the Nordic flora can be seen in the windows.

The 5th generation Mikael Kenlind joined the company in year 2002. Today he is in charge of
the design and product development, renowned for his knowledge, creative approach and passion
for the material.
